How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal prevents future hair growth by selectively targeting and destroying hair follicles at their root. During a treatment, our MeDioStar diode laser distributes light energy over the desired area. The light safely travels through the skin and targets the melanin in the hair follicle. The melanin absorbs the light energy, heating the follicle and damaging the cells that stimulate hair growth.

Multiple treatments are required to treat each hair strand during its active growth stage, or the anagen phase. Hair growth occurs in three different stages: the anagen phase, catagen phase, and telogen phase. The anagen phase is when hair is still attached to the skin’s dermis. During the anagen phase, hair follicles receive blood supply and nutrients to grow, hence its nickname the active growth stage. The catagen phase, referred to as the transition phase, is when hair follicles shrink and detach from the nutrient supply. The telogen phase, also known as the resting phase, is when the detached hair rests in the follicle until it is pushed out by the growth of a new anagen hair, thus repeating the hair growth cycle.

Individual hairs are in a different phase at any given time, which is why multiple treatments are needed to target each strand while it’s in the anagen phase. On average, most clients will need six to ten treatments to achieve long lasting hair reduction.

Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?

On average, most clients need 6 to 10 treatments for significant hair reduction and long-lasting results. Every client will need multiple treatments in order to target each hair during its anagen phase or active growing stage. During a hair removal session, all hairs in an area are treated with no way of knowing which growth phase they’re in. That means, only the anagen phase hairs are successfully treated in a single laser treatment. Multiple treatments are needed to target the remaining hairs during their anagen phase.

Can you treat all hair and skin types?

Yes! Our MeDioStar laser’s wavelengths and highly efficient cooling system guarantees safe treatment for all skin types, and even newly tanned skin. As for hair colors, our answer is still yes, but with some limitations. Laser hair removal targets the melanin or pigment in hair, so every hair color will react different. Therefore, very dark hair to dark blonde will respond very well to treatment whereas white and grey hairs will be less responsive to treatment. Generally, a higher contrast of melanin between skin type and hair color generates better results.

Can you treat all body areas?

Yes, our MeDioStar laser can safely treat all body areas, even private areas. The most popular treatment areas are the legs, arms, back, underarms, chest, upper lip, and bikini area.

Is the laser safe?

Yes! Our Astanza MeDioStar laser is a FDA approved and noninvasive. This cutting-edge laser is safe to treat all skin types, even newly tanned skin. Using TAPER technology, our laser evenly distributes energy over the entire handpiece spot, preventing hot spots and overtreatment of the skin while reducing the risk of unwanted side effects.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Vanish Laser Clinic delivers painless laser hair removal treatments thanks to our advanced diode laser technology. Each of our laser handpieces are designed with 360º contact skin cooling to alleviate the skin immediately before each treatment pulse and protects the skin from thermal damage. Thanks to this featured, clients are given maximum treatment and the most comfortable hair removal experience.

Are there any side effects or downtime?

Laser hair removal is a very safe procedure with little to no side effects and absolutely no downtime. This noninvasive procedure uses light energy to safely penetrate through the skin without harming the surrounding skin tissue. Common side effects include temporary redness, itchiness, and swelling of the skin, which all subside within a few hours following treatment. Aloe vera is used to soothe the skin post treatment.
